20 things that could happen when there’s no web monitoring software
Nobody wants to be the Internet Police. We’re probably all very happy with unrestricted Internet access, and it’s none of our business what other people do online.
That all changes in a business environment. Since the company’s PCs are company assets, the company pays for bandwidth, and there are all sorts of threats out there even for users who are doing the right things, companies need Internet monitoring and filtering. It has nothing to do with policing the Internet but it has everything to do with safeguarding your network, assets, investment and reputation.
Block harmful websites or else…
Most companies these days provide Internet access to their employees. Most employees consider Internet access like coffee service – something that they take for granted. While this is a great thing for both employers and employees to have, when that Internet access is completely unrestricted, bad things can happen with alarming frequency. Companies’ IT or security teams need to implement technical protections to block harmful websites, or employees can quickly find their workstations compromised by malware. Let’s first discuss why you would want to block harmful websites, and then how.
Improving productivity with Internet monitoring software
The Internet is one of the best and most powerful information tools but it can be an enormous time sink if employees in the company have unrestricted Internet access. When those constantly on Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and the rest are on the clock, that’s time and money they are taking away from the business! Providing users unrestricted Internet access is great, but not when it causes productivity issues. One way to deal with the problem is to manage and monitor access to the Internet so that you are efficiently using bandwidth, maintaining productivity and keeping employees happy.
‘Because [they’re] happy’… or, maybe not. How can you tell?
Can you tell if your employees are happy? With stress costing the US industry an estimated $300 billion a year in sick days, accidents and associated costs, it might be time to measure your employee happiness. Impossible! No, it isn’t. GFI MailArchiver’s email management system can monitor your company’s mood. How does it do that? Watch our…

Recently, a small bank in Wyoming with a 1 man IT department contracted a nasty computer virus that their antivirus did not catch. The virus caused a huge loss in production and new business.
Because their Big Name antivirus failed to detect the virus, the bank began looking for an alternative. How did this happen? Because today computer crackers (The Bad Guys) are exploiting third party applications such as Java, or Adobe Flash. Also there may be machines on the network with outdated antivirus definitions.
How to Protect Your Twitter Account from Targeted Phishing Attacks
The Syrian Electronic Army, a hacking collective which seems to be pro-Syrian government, has been on a Twitter hacking roll lately. They’ve managed to compromise the accounts of many major news outlets, notably the Twitter account of the Associated Press, the Guardian, E! The compromised accounts were then used to spread pro-Syrian government messages and even fake news – news which led to a temporary dip in the Dow Jones and huge $136 billion in value. The latest victim of this hacking spree has been the satirical news website “The Onion”. After taking these attacks with a pinch of salt and posting several satirical articles, The Onion has posted an article detailing how this was done.
