Tom Merritt joins us as our guest this week. Tom started his broadcasting career at WGEL Radio in Illinois in 1986. After working in Radio for a number of years, Tom began to focus on technology. Tom joined the cast at Tech TV and began producing programming mixing the web and television. He then moved to Cnet, and worked on creating the popular Buzz Out Loud podcast. Tom also worked with Leo Laporte’s TWiT network. Tom currently is an independent journalist, and is working hard to build his brand.
Tom shares his story with us, including his creation of Sword and Laser LLC. He is currently producing several podcasts including Daily Tech News, Current Geek, and Cord Killers with Brian Brushwood. Tom was an excellent guest with a fascinating story to tell.

Business Failure:
In the process of setting up his company, Tom did not consult with experts such as a CPA. Tom learned the hard way that that was a big mistake,. He now makes sure to work with experts before making a major business move.
Successful Habit:
Tom reserves time for things that he is typically tempted not to reserve time for. For example Tom takes several hours before a show to focus on material, and take no calls or distractions.
